Egyptian dance

Egyptian dance is associated with the rich cultural heritage of music and dance brought by nomadic tribes who enhanced the regional dances throughout different periods of history. These folk traditions changed little over the centuries, despite socio-economic transformations.

Towards the half of XXth century, Egyptian dancers contributed in establishing this ancient art form as an artistic discipline and dance became known in Europe and America through mass media. Nowadays, Egyptian dance has evolved into a theatrical form that still maintains the authenticity of its traditional roots.

  • Egyptian dance is grounded and uses body-centred movements: the body finds its natural spontaneity and so the dancer learns to dance from what she/he knows already. Egyptian dance transforms innate, instinctive gestures into a sensitive, profound, integrated expression. The body is transformed into a receptive tool for self-expressiveness and creativity.

  • Egyptian dance is a celebration of existence in all its aspects: it promotes a sense of heightening of life: it awakens a sense of Primal Joy.

  • Egyptian dance is taught and performed as part of a continuing tradition.
